Visual Search
in simple and complex environments (incl. scientific graphs)
Within this line of research, we study various factors determining the efficiency of visual search. These factors include pharmacological sources of influence, the saliency, familiarity and position of target objects, the search task etc. Additionally, we studied how we should design scientific line and bar graphs in order to maximize graph comprehension. Specifically, we demonstrated that the spatial configuration of legends play a crucial role here. Finally, we investigated how the memorization of (and subsequent search for) faces may represent a viable alternative to the ubiquitous passwords and number codes utilized in authentication systems (e.g., ATMs).
